ReplyDeleteI love the stoneware salt beer mug with your logo on it! Please enter me in this contest :)
I actually have pottery and mugs from various countries. As a military brat, I have had the opportunity to buy a mug that is the size of a cereal bowl from Waechtersbach, Germany. Although my mug doesn't look anything like the stoneware salt beer mug above, I do recall the pottery shop having various salt glaze pottery. If I remember correctly this type salt glazing pottery was perfected in the Rhineland.
Consider yourself entered Samantha! And you are correct! This type of salt glazing was perfected in the Rhineland! It also made it's way to the Genesee region of NY with the wave of German settlers that came to this area.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I remember that you are the museum intern interested in Historic Clothing! Check back because this week will start showcasing pieces from The Green Collection! I saw a lot of it last week and it is to die for!
I agree Samantha, a wonderful way to promote the Village. I know that our family, which does live close to it, loves going and learning new things. As member, we try to get out there as much as possible. It seems that we learn something new each time we visit!!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to think long and hard on a good question. I really enjoyed the last Stuart's Musings....
April, we will have more of Stuart's Musings soon!
ReplyDeleteHello! Great contest... coincidentally I love beer and salt-glazed pottery! Please enter me into the drawing. Thanks! And I will be out there soon with my new camera, since GCM is one of my favorite places to take pictures!
ReplyDeleteLove this contest. Love the museum. Wish I could get there more than once a year.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time for GCM. We have been visiting the Museum frequently since our daughters 3rd or 4th grade class visited on a school trip back in the 80's. Fell in love with the place and all of the events that take place. The staff and voulenteers are great and very knowledgable. Always enjoy the 4th of July festivities as well as the Fiddlers Faire, Agriculteral Faire and the Halloween celebration. Looking forward to visiting the Brewery and seeing /winning a new Growler. Please enter me in the Museums contest.
ReplyDeleteI love the piece chosen for the first giveaway. We love visiting the museum and bringing home special momentos from each experience.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to read all of these wonderful comments about the museum! And just to be clear, the contest is for a Mug (It is just pictured with the growler!) or 2 free admission tickets!
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun giveaway! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win those beautiful pieces!
ReplyDeleteConsider me entered in the contest!
My daughter is seven and was wondering about volunteer opportunities. I read her the bit you posted last week, and she asked if you ever needed families with younger children for specific things like family life, schooling...
ReplyDeleteShe is earning money to attend the homeschoolers seminar about Living a Long Time ago. She is picking strawberries to sell, and is also making bread. She set up a little shop after church the past two weeks and has made over $50 dollars. She is so excited!!!
I adore both pottery and the occasional beer, so I'd love to enter.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, what a wonderful job you have done with this blog!
Thank you.
I am so glad you are doing this blog and are on Facebook. This way I can virtually visit since I can't visit in person from 2000 miles away. This is a great location to share Stuart's Musings. He always has such great stories filled with information. I would love to see one based on his fences presentation from years back.
ReplyDeleteIf long distance entries are doable, please enter me as well.
My husband I love the name of the ale and the stoneware is beautiful. Our daughter loves visiting the Museum.
ReplyDeleteAnna-You certainly can enter long distance!!!! It's also nice to hear what people like seeing on the blog because then we can write about more of those subjects! And you can bet that the next Stuart's Musings will be about fences!!!Thanks for the request!
ReplyDeletePamela-What a great project for your daughter! She's already a pioneer in spirit! We will contact you offline regarding your request.
Great idea for promoting the museum...I'm in!...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and such a fun blog.. :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the admission tickets! With our jam packed schedule this summer it would probably be the only thing that could motivate my husband to take a trip out there. I have nevere been to the Museum, but it's been on my list for a few months now. In big part thanks to Adam and Bess.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to promote your blog! Please enter us!

ReplyDeleteNow for the question....how many different types of flowers/herbs are there planted at the museum? The gardens are absolutely beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the beautiful pottery, and the beer :)

A couple questions regarding the new FAT OX ALE (which is very good by the way!) can I bring a Custom Brewcrafter growler to refill or do I need a new growler? Can I buy the new stoneware salt glazed growler pictured-and if so, does it have a sealing cap to keep the beer from going flat?
ReplyDeleteNice idea! I'd love to visit your village, sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!

I grew up in upstate NY and never got to visit the Genesee Country museum. I am so disappointed! Maybe now is my chance, or if I can't visit, the beer mug would be a great gift. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteThis weekend, I saw many happy visitors with the beer mugs and the really lovely saltware glazed growlers!! What a great gift-handmade by the GCVM potter!
ReplyDeleteThe museum has been a part of my life since I was a child, and I have now made it a part of my children's lives. Love the Laura Ingalls Wilder Day, keep up all the great events!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Upstate NY and enjoyed many trips to the Genesee Country museum with my parents, nana and pa, and friends. Now that I'm in AZ I think it's time to come back and visit the musuem in the fall. :)
ReplyDeleteOur family recieved a membership at GCVM from my brother some years ago and we have continued membership. Being from WNY, we love going at all times of the year. There is always something new to learn for young and old. The new/old brewery is a real piece of history that is a welcome addition. We were over yesterday for Father's Day. What a great day!!!
ReplyDeleteI Love Genesee Country museum!
ReplyDeleteI purchased some of Marks pottery for my Mom over 20 years ago and still haven,t found much to compair with it, it now hold an honored place in my china hutch as a memory of her. These creations of Marks are what heirlooms are made of ....Thanks Mark.
ReplyDeleteHope to be counted in on the contest.
I can hardly wait to try this beer. We go every year for the Agricultural Fair in October and have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWish we were in NY now to try the beer!
ReplyDeleteWe have been going to the museum for 25 years and at least 4 times a year and for special events. Now I am teaching my grand children the love of this museum, why it is so important to restore these buildings for the future. It is so important to learn form the past to understand where we are to go in the future. The Hyde is our favorite house and my daughters want to have their weddings in the gardens in the next year. We need more promotions of the museum all across the country for tourism. Chris Maxwell
ReplyDeleteThis is great! We can not wait to try the beer and a great idea with the give away good luck to everyone! Amber n Arden Flanagan
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to pick up some of the pottery for some time now... these look great! I was at the museum yesterday but didn't get a chance to try a beer. Maybe next weekend!
ReplyDeleteAs a friend of this beautiful blog, I would thank you for keeping us up-to-date
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get the email button to work, but my question is about infant care in 19th century America. What did they eat? What were the norms around breastfeeding? Who cared for babies and very young children? What did they wear? And of course, I could elaborate with further questions, but I'm sure you get my drift!
